Frequently Asked Questions:

Artwork and Design

Q: Is it possible to have a photo engraved?

A: See General Engraving questions.

Q: What kind of artwork do you need and can I produce my own finished artwork?

A: Just about every job is different. Not if it is for a sandblast mask unless you are an expert in this field and I am satisfied it is perfectly suitable. Hand engraving is a different story. I would be interpretting your work and that is fine, then you can bring me any picture you like, your own sketch / photo/ painting etc. But not something that is covered by copyright.

Q: Does lettering look better at the back or the front of the glass when opposite a design or logo?

A: As long as there is no serious clashing and if this is a necessary layout, lettering is best at the front with the picture at the back, it is often very effective.

Q: Can I leave the design to you?

A: Absolutely. As long as I know what your budget is for the engraving and I have a general idea of subject or theme.

Q: What about a picture of a portrait of my dog?

A: The picture MUST be a good clear portrait quality picture for the best effect. When taking a picture get down level with the dog or it will look foreshortened. I will take a picture if necessary.

Q: Can you come and take a photo of my house to engrave?

A: Yes, providing it is nearby.

Q: What is the best shape of glass for a building?

A: Always a straight sided vessel or flat glass.

Q: Can you copy another engraved glass?

A: See General Engraving questions.
